Dibrugarh LACs record 69 pc polling

DIRBRUGARH, April 4 � The polling in all the seven legislative assembly constituencies of the district concluded peacefully with 69.86 per cent of the electorates exercising their adult franchise.

Among seven legislative assembly constituencies, Chabua and Duliajan, both registered 73 per cent vote each while Moran followed with 71 per cent vote. Tingkhong and Lahoal registered 70 per cent each. While 68 per cent of the electorates in Dibrugarh cast their votes, only 67 per cent of the electorates in Naharkatia exercised their franchise.

Meanwhile not a single vote was polled at 108 Shalmari LP school polling station within Tingkhong LAC following boycott call by the electorates of the area in protest against abandoning of the tea estate by the management. Electorates of the polling station numbering only 156 voluntarily refrained from exercising their adult franchise, Deputy Commissioner Dr KK Dwivedi told this newspaper.

Our Tinsukia Correspondent adds: The voters of Tinsukia district comprising of five constituencies � Tinsukia, Digboi, Margherita, Doomdooma and Sadiya besides 94 polling stations of Chabua Constituency have casted their votes peacefully. Till the final hours the percentages of votes polled in the district are in Tinsukia 62 per cent, in Digboi 70 per cent, in Doomdooma 70 per cent, in Margherita 70 per cent and in Sadiya 70 per cent. The total percentage of poll in the district is about 68 per cent.

Our Doom Dooma Correspondent adds: Around 70 percent of the voters cast their votes in Doom Dooma constituency, while, the voter turn out was 72 percent in Sadiya constituency. The polling was very slow in the morning hours due to rain but it later picked up.

Our Digboi Correspondent adds:

In the easternmost Assam Legislative Assembly constituencies of Digboi and Margherita moderate to heavy polling was seen to have taken place. In Margherita constituency the overall percentage of votes polled was around 70 and in Digboi constituency it was around 68. Polling in both the constituencies is stated to have been peaceful and incident-free.
