GUWAHATI, Jan 5 - Dibrugarh and Dhansiri were adjudged best teams in the men and women categories respectively in the 43rd Assam State Inter District Weightlifting Championship held at Sivasagar from January 2 to 4.
The championship was organised by the Sivasagar District Weightlifting Association under the aegis of the Assam Weightlifting Association. Altogether 200 lifters from all over the State took part in the meet which was inaugurated by Arjuna Awardee Bhugeswar Baruah.
Competitions were conducted in the weight categories of 56kg, 62kg, 69kg, 77kg, 85kg, 94kg, 105kg and above 105kg for men and 48kg, 53kg, 58kg, 63kg, 69kg, 75kg and above 75kg for women.
International referee Bhabajyoti Goswami officiated the championship and he was assisted by Basanta Das, Tridip Gogoi, Santanu Gogoi, Romen Dutta and Himangshu Kalita.
Best lifter award winners in different categories are: (Junior men) Kaushik Baruah, Dhansiri; (Junior women) Pompi Saikia, Dhansiri; (Senior men) Jatin Baruah, Dhansiri; (Senior women) Swapna Priya Baruah, SAI Guwahati.
