DIBRUGARH, April 6 - Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha today held a meeting with religious leaders of different faiths and sought their support to create awareness among the people of their communities about the importance of maintaining social distancing to contain outbreak of COVID-19 in the district.

In the meeting held at the DC Offices conference hall, Jha stated that social distancing is the only way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and appealed to the religious leaders to refrain from holding large gatherings so that norms for social distancing can be maintained.

Stating that the district administration is taking measures to provide food and other facilities to the homeless and poorest section of the society, Deputy Commissioner Jha also appealed to all to share list of daily wage earners and workers of unorganized sectors, who dont have BPL cards, so that proper measures to provide necessary assistance to them can be taken by the administration.

Keeping in view the objectionable comments made by some in the social media platforms in the recent past, Deputy Commissioner Jha made it clear that communal comments against any community will not be tolerated and administration along with the police is strictly monitoring social media sites to stop such activities. In the meeting, Superintendent of Police Sreejith T also appealed to all not to spread rumours and fake news and urged the people to contact authorities concerned for verification of any news, a release stated.
