Dibrugarh DC reviews road construction works

DIBRUGARH, Nov 14 - In the wake of delay in completion of construction works, the Deputy Commissioner here, Pallav Gopal Jha sought a detailed report of every ongoing construction/repair project under the PWD (roads) in the district.

In a meeting with all the officers of PWD (Roads) and the concerned contractors held today in the presence of members from Dibrugarh Press Club and the MLAs of the district, Deputy Commissioner sought commitment from the concerned contractors in fixing the deadline for completion of works. The Deputy Commissioner also instructed the PWD to take strict action against the contractors who fail to keep their date of completion deadline, and if required, ordered the officials to blacklist them.

It is pertinent to mention that Dibrugarh Press Club (DPC) had submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister recently with regard to various problems of the city, including ongoing snail pace construction works. In follow up to the memorandum, The Deputy Commissioner convened the meeting with the concerned officials, Dibrugarh Press Club members and MLAs, including Bimal Borah, Teras Gowala, Naren Sonowal. The meeting held at District Training Centre, Dibrugarh was also attended by Dibrugarh Development Commissioner Sanjay Dutta.

During the meeting the slow progress of construction and repairing of roads in the district was raised by journalists. A list of roads that require immediate repair was also handed over to the Deputy Commissioner by the scribes. The Deputy Commissioner took up all the roads one-by-one in the meeting and sought explanation from the concerned PWD officials and contractors.

He also mentioned about sanction of a flyover connecting Nabin Chandra Bordoloi Path (Convoy Road) - Railway Crossing at Kodomoni by the government. He further said that the flyover at Chaulkhowa and the Dibrugarh bypass should be completed by February, 2020.

The Deputy Commissioner also pointed out that sometimes progress of works get disrupted due to public litigation and in some cases due to demand for money from the contractors. He said that he would undertake a spot visit on November 25 to inspect ongoing works.
