Dibrugarh champions

MANGALDAI, June 10 - Dibrugarh lifted the Khirod Baruah Memorial Trophy emerging champions in the 67th Senior Inter District Football Championship.

In the final played at Bhergaon High School playground in Udalguri district near here yesterday, Dibrugarh edged past Tinsukia by a solitary goal. In the keenly contested final, Milan Basumatary fired the match winner converting a spot kick three minutes from the time.

Tinsukia defender Bitupan Moran brought down opponent striker Firujit Dahotiya inside the box and referee awarded a penalty for the Dibrugarh team. Earlier in the 77th minute Firudan Barglary of Dibrugarh was given marching orders for rough play.

Dibrugarh became richer by Rs 15,000 while Tinsukia walked away with a prize-money of Rs 10,000 along with trophies.

In the closing function, Daneswar Gayari, EM, BTC, Sports and Youth Welfare in presence Deputy Speaker, BTC, Neson Boro, secretary of Assam Football Association (AFA) Hemendra Nath Brahma, AFA vice president Lakhshi Ram Boro and veteran sports organiser Biren Medhi, among others gave away the trophy to the winning team. The final match was conducted by Nirmal Bhattacharjee as the referee. He was assisted by Elias Musahary and Dwisong Basumatary from line.�
