Dibrugarh boy ranked 6th in world arm wrestling

DIBRUGARH, Oct 12 - Armwrestler Manoj Debnath of Dibrugarh, secured the sixth position in the 38th World Armwrestling Championship held from October 1 to 10 in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria.

He was the only Indian to secure a place in the list of top ten world armwrestlers. A 28-member team from India including the team manager and other officials took part in the event. Manoj Debnath and Amardeep Singh from Jorhat were the only two arm wrestlers from Assam, representing India in the event.

Debnath won against Egypt, Slovakia and Bulgaria in the men 55kg category and grabbed the sixth position in the top ten world ranks. Amardeep Singh was reportedly placed 22nd in the world ranking. The general secretary of the Assam Armwrestling Association Pran Pratima Chaliha from Guwahati was the Indian team manager.
