DIBRUGARH, Oct 26 � At a time when crime against women is escalating in the State, Dr Tultul Barua, former head of the Anthropology department of DHSK College here and wife of Biman Barua, president of Dibrugarh Bar Association became another victim of domestic violence. She has been admitted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) following reported attack on her by husband Biman Barua.
Advocate Biman Barua was arrested yesterday but was released on producing interim bail. Dr Tultul Barua had lodged a complaint at the Sadar Police Station and a case No 766/11 under Section 325 and 498 was registered against her husband.
Dr Tultul Barua has alleged that her husband was inflicting physical and mental torture upon her since past few months. She was reportedly assaulted on October 23. Police had taken her for medical examination to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) here after which she preferred to be shifted to GMCH.
Meanwhile, All Assam Pragatisheel Nari Sanstha president Anju Borkotoky while condemning the attack on Dr Tultul Barua said that the crime has proved that domestic violence even takes place among the educated, elite and law enforcers in Assam.
