Dhupdhara boys win ID Cup opener

NAGAON, Nov 25 - Football Academy, Dhupdhara clinched the inaugural match of the 67th All India Independence Day Cup Football Tournament beating 9th AP Bn Barhampur by 3-1 at the Nurul Amin Stadium here today.

In the one-sided match, Ishak Sangma netted all the three goals for the winning team while Torsis Sangma reduced the margin.

The championship was formally inaugurated by former national football referee and sports pensioner Monuranjan Dutta who was also a noted footballer of the town. Inaugurating the tournament Dutta recalled the golden days of ID Cup soccer tournament which had been a leading football tournament of the country.

Veteran sports personalities like Rajen Borkakoti, Sahajananda Ojha, Hiteswar Bezborooah, SP Arabinda Kalita, District Sports Officer Paresh Saikia, Nagaon Sports Association (NSA) secretary Pradip Kumar Hazarika along with several noted sportspersons were present in the opening ceremony.

NSA president Minister Rakibul Hussain also arrived after the kick off and witnessed the match. Altogether 12 frontline teams are taking part in the championship and the final is slated for December 7.
