DHUBRI, March 22 - With an aim to spread awareness about the glorious past of the historic Dhubri town, many school students, individuals and senior citizens participated in a �Heritage Walk� in the town recently.
The programme, organised by Sahapedia, India Heritage Walks in collaboration with the District Museum Dhubri, started from the Victoria Statue Park at Tetoltola, a marble statue measuring 20 feet in height installed by the British rulers in 1905 against the backdrop of the Bengal Partition, and covered 15 different destinations of historical importance within a radius of 2 kilometres.
Senior journalist and social worker Bijoy Kumar Sharma of Dhubri led the walk by sharing facts, histories and narratives of the town in lucid detail. Taking this opportunity, Sharma also urged the district administration and the Government departments concerned to take necessary steps for developing Dhubri as a focal point of heritage tourism.
�This would help in drawing visitors from across the state, country and the world to Dhubri as tourists,� he speculated.
�The �Heritage Walk� along Dhubri town shared a common platform with 8 other heritage walks held across the country by India Heritage Walks, Sahapedia, New Delhi,� informed Mrinmoy Das, District Museum Officer of Dhubri.
Das said it is a matter of satisfaction that the importance of Dhubri town as a rich heritage centre has been recognised at the national level.
India Heritage Walks, a unit of Sahapedia, New Delhi, conducts heritage trails in various places across the country with an aim to encourage citizens to explore the monuments and places rich in history, art and architecture.
