GAURIPUR, March 19 - The voters of 4 Dhubri HPC here feel that the elected representatives of the constituency failed to redress their long-standing genuine grievances and they did nothing for uplift of the backward district bordering Bangladesh. Flood, erosion, unemployment, lack of industries, surface communication, education, health, drinking water, agriculture etc., remain unattended for years together. The tall promises made by the candidates at the time of election remain only in their speeches.

As the entire constituency is dominated by the voters of religious minority, the leaders usually consider them as vote bank and after winning they forget their promises and deprived the people and even failed to approach them with a positive gesture. Even after taking oath as a member of the Parliament, the ill-fated voters did not even see his shadow, they lamented.

From 1952 to 2014, the Congress party won the seat in 37 times, but the Congress did nothing to solve the problems. They even forgot the voters for these years. In 1971 Mainul Haque Chaudhury was elected from the constituency on a Congress ticket and was included in the Indira Gandhi Cabinet and was allotted the Industry portfolio, but not a single industry was set up. People demanded setting up a jute mill in Dhubri as the entire constituency was rich in jute cultivation but that too was not implemented.

In last two elections in 2009 and 2014, the AIUDF candidate Badaruddin Ajmal was elected but he is busy in his own business at Mumbai, Delhi and in the Middle-East and could do nothing for his people who voted him to power. People alleged that he is busy in his perfume industry rather than meeting them and stand behind them in their distress and therefore it is sure that he will face a tough battle this year.
