Dhubri flood scene remains grim

DHUBRI, July 25 - After receding for a few days, the water level of Brahmaputra and Gangadhar rivers in Dhubri district has started rising again, making the lives of thousands of people miserable.

On Saturday till the filing of this report, a total population of 2,78,841 living in 223 villages remained under water. Among the worst-affected areas are the villages under South Salmara Circle, where about 164 villages have been reeling under flood water for about a month.

Brahmaputra has already crossed its danger level again and is flowing at 29.96 metres and Gangadhar river is flowing at its danger mark at 29.94 metres.

Meanwhile, thousands of houses in Dhubri town are still under flood water. �The flood situation is worst this year. Our houses have been under water for the last one month. Our house has been submerged for three consecutive times this year, which had made life more difficult,� said Babul Das, a resident of Nuniyapatty area of Dhubri town.
