Dhubri DTO registers record revenue collection

By Correspondent

DHUBRI, April 11 The District Transport Office (DTO) here has posted record revenue collection figures in the year 2009-10 since the last three decades.

The office has two sources for collection of revenue, namely its office at Dhubri and its check gate at the inter-State border at Chagalia. The major collection, however, is done at the Chagalia check gate. This year the collection at the gate is recorded as Rs 16,83,52,728 as against Rs 16,07,79,621 collected last year.

Similarly, the office collection in the year ending on March 31, 2010 was Rs 3,49,46,248 while the same in the previous year had been Rs 2,44,94,860. The total revenue collected by the DTO in 2009-10 (at both the sources) stands at Rs 20,32,98,576, which is nearly two crore more than last years total collection. Hence it is a record so far.

The credit of such handsome collection was attributed to all the DTO staff, including the enforcement staff.

The staff of the gate laboured all the year round, claimed Gautam Das, while he praised his office staff who despite a shortage of eight persons against the sanctioned posts, managed the huge office work with only one UDA and two LDAs, besides two grade iv employees.

The DTO office functioning from a rented house with 3 rooms and a veranda converted into another room. It is virtually like a godown. The recently introduced computer system had to be accommodated in the chamber of the DTO.

The department is constructing a building for its office, but it is still half done. The office telephone has remained disconnected since long due to non-payment of bills.
