GUWAHATI, Feb 9: Dhritisman Goswami won a bronze medal in Under-16 high jump with a jump of 1.86m to take Assam’s tally to five medals in the ongoing 36th National Junior Athletics Championships at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai here today.
Kathuri Pranay of Telangana snatched the gold while Atharv Shrikant Dhaj of Maharashtra secured the silver medal.
Earlier, Jwngsar Basumatary clinched the silver medal in triple jump while Idul Hussain struck a silver by clocking 11.16 seconds in the Under-16 boys’ 100-metre event. In U-20 boys’ 10,000-metre walking, Bikram Das clinched a bronze completing the distance in 44.07 minutes. In U-14 boys’ 60-metre race, Anshuman Bhagawati had won a bronze medal.
Haryana with a total of 42 medals including 17 gold, 15 silver and 10 bronze stand on top of the medals tally. Tamil Nadu occupy the second spot, followed by Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Delhi respectively. Altogether 1600 athletes from 32 states are participating in the championship. Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju will be present during the closing ceremony tomorrow.
