Dhiraj lifts Assam to 234/3

By Sports reporter

GUWAHATI, Nov 29 Assam opener Dhiraj Jadhav again hit form and cracked his third century this season as Assam reached 233 for three on the opening day of the four-day Plate Group Ranji Trophy match against Jharkhand at Dhanbad today.

Opting to use the track first, Assam made a good start adding 58 runs for the opening wicket partnership between Dhiraj Jadhav (102) and debutant Pallab Das (27).

After Pallabs departure, Dhiraj found another solid partner in Amit Sinha and the pair yielded 135 runs for the second wicket.

In-form batsman Sib Sankar Roy, however, could not last long as the number four batsman was out for 11. At stumps, Tarjinder Singh was accompanying Amit with 6.

Dhiraj again showed his class today and stayed at the crease for 280 minutes. His 213-ball knock was studded with nine fours and a six.

Pallab today batted well and during his 106-minute innings he hit four boundaries.

But Amit Sinha was the star attraction today. The number three batsman batted with caution and aggression. He faced 198 balls and sent the ball to the ropes 12 times. The stylish batsman took a toll on the Jharkhand bowlers and hit them all round the wicket. He made good use of the batting track at Railway Stadium.

For the home team, Samar Quadri was the most successful bowler with two victims while Shahbaz Nadeem got one.
