Dhemaji Forest Division tops in revenue collection

JONAI, April 1 - Dhemaji Forest Division (Territorial) comprising two ranges, i.e., Dhemaji and Jonai, has topped in revenue collection for the 2017-18 term, disclosed Forest Department sources.

The amount of revenue collection during the year was more than Rs 16.78 crore, out of which a sizeable amount was collected by Jonai Range bordering Arunachal Pradesh.

Revenue sources of the department are forest royalty paid against lifting of and transportation of timber, minor minerals such as sand, silt and sand gravel. It also gathered huge amount of revenue as penalty imposed against seized log or timber and illegal transportation of forest wealth.

Moreover, departmental officials at Jonai levy tax against transportation of forest products imported from nearby Arunachal Pradesh.
