GUWAHATI, Aug 22 � Even as the floodwaters of the rivers are receding due to a slight improvement in the weather condition, the overall flood situation in the worst flood-ravaged district of Dhemaji is still critical, said Dhemaji District Disaster Management Authority (DDDMA) sources today.
Road communication between a vast area of the district, beyond the district headquarter town of Dhemaji, and the rest of the State remained cutoff for the eighth day today.
While rains occurred over many parts of the district this morning, the overcast sky made the situation unpredictable in the afternoon hours, sources said.
So far six persons are killed by the current wave of flood that started on August 15. Altogether 65 cattle heads have also been washed away by the floodwaters in different parts of the district.
In all, 292 villages in the four revenue circles of Dhemaji, Gogamukh, Sisibargaon and Jonai have been affected by this wave of flood.
The overall damage caused by floods in the district this time is being assessed, sources said.
In Lakhimpur district, the situation is limping back to normal slowly. But the rivers like the Dikrong, the Pabho and the Kakoi are found to be flowing above their danger levels at Sisapathar RCC Bridge and their own NH-52 crossings respectively, Lakhimpur District Disaster Management Authority (LDDMA) sources said.
Though the other three rivers, namely Boginadi, Singara and Dorpang are flowing below their individual danger levels at the NH-52 crossings and at Dorpang village respectively, their water levels are rising, said the LDDMA sources.
