Dhemaji College steps into golden jubilee year

DHEMAJI, July 29 � Dhemaji College, the premier higher educational institution of the district and established in 1965, which was accredited with �B� (rating point 2.7 by the NAAC) is stepping into its glorious 50th year of educational service on August 1 next.

The institution is all set to observe 2014 -15 as the golden jubilee year of the college. As a part of the year-long programme, the college has organised its inaugural ceremony on July 1 and 2 with a two-day programme .

As per the schedule, the celebration will begin at 8 am on July 1. On the following day at 9.15 am, Dr.Budhindra Boruah, principal of the college will hoist the flag to mark the two-day ceremony. It will be followed by laying of the foundation stone of the building to be built to mark 50 years of the college by Dr Ranuj Pegu, chief executive counsellor of the Mising Autonomous Council (MAC).

The open session of the celebration will be held at 11 am. Dr AK Buragohain, Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University will inaugurate the session while the welcome address will be delivered by Principal Dr B Boruah. Phanindra Jidung, Director of Higher Education, Assam, will grace the open meeting as the chief guest. On the other hand, Dr Hitesh Deka, Dean of Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University and Dr Hiranya Kumar Nath, Prof Sem-Housestone State University, USA, will deliver the golden jubilee memorial lecture. In the open meeting, the souvenir of the college titled Nirabadhi will be released by Bhaben Pegu, former principal of the college.

The meeting will also be attended by Dr Rupam Saikia, Director of the College Development Council, Dibrugarh University. Monalisa Goswami, Deputy Commissioner of Dhemaji and Dr Kamal Gogoi, Principal of Moridhal College have consented to attend as distinguished guests.

In the evening, a cultural show will be performed which will be inaugurated by Sangita Gogoi, a former student.

On the concluding evening, a cultural programme will be organised with the participation of the teachers and students, both present and former pupils of the college. Dr B Boruah, president and Pradip Saikia, secretary of the celebration committee have solicited the presence and cooperation of all the people in order to make the celebration a grand success.
