DHEMAJI, Nov 4 - District Agriculture Department of Dhemaji has submitted an estimate worth Rs 11.19 crore to compensate crop damages covering four revenue circles in the district.

District Agriculture Officer (DAO), Tiranga Bharatiya Borah, informed that the estimate approved by the district-level committee in its recent meeting has been forwarded to the States Revenue Department.

We, along with Revenue Department officials, conducted a post-flood assessment on crop damage caused by floods this monsoon and finalised the amount as relief to affected farmers, Borah said, while adding that the amount was not adequate to pay the compensation as demanded.

Borah said that Dhemaji district would get the highest amount under Flood Damage Repairing (FDR) funds this year.

The affected farmers will get respite from their economic hardship after having the minimal flood damage compensation, he maintained.

The DAO further informed that about 17,400 hectares of standing crops were beaten down by the flash floods this year. Thus, the circle-wise break-up of crop damage in Dhemaji is 4,682 hectares of land, Gogamukh 1,250 hectares, Sissiborgaon 3,216 hectares and worse affected Jonai 8,200 hectares.

Besides seasonal crops, arecanut and lemon gardens in many areas were collapsed in the flash floods.

On the other hand, the Agriculture Department distributed paddy seedlings among affected farmers.
