DHD(J) seeks release of jailed leaders

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Aug 17 Militant outfit Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel) (DHD-J) has threatened a 24-hour fast from 6 am of August 20 in support of the release of its jailed leaders and cadres.

In a memorandum sent to the Prime Minister, the militant outfit resented that though its Commander-in-Chief Niranjan Hojai led the surrender of the outfits leaders and 415 cadres on October 2, 2009, he was arrested after nine months of this event on July 1, 2010. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) made the arrest and the DHD (J) C-in-C has been sent to the jail custody.

The militant outfit has regarded this incident as a great injustice to it and this act of the Government has hampered the peace process in the Dima Hasao (NC Hills) District. The DHD-J chairman and C-in-C, are in jail custody, along with other cadres of the outfit, said the members of the outfit.

This has led the members of the outfit to take recourse to a 24-hour fast during the above mentioned period for the release of its jailed leaders and cadres so that the negotiation process may be made productive, said the outfit in its memorandum sent to the Prime Minister.

It needs mention here that Niranjan Hojai himself observed a 24-hour fast inside the Guwahati Central Jail from 6am of August 9, in support of the above demand.

The memorandum has been signed by Deputy C-in-C of the outfit Debolal Garlosa, its vice chairman Subrata Thaosen and home secretary Debojit Bathari.
