Dharna staged at Last Gate

GUWAHATI, July 15 � The Assam Tea Tribes Students� Association (ATTSA) today staged a two-hour dharna at the Dispur Last Gate in support their demands.

The demands of the ATTSA include ST status to tea communities, land patta to landless people of tea communities, raising tea tribe welfare fund to Rs 100 crore, hike in daily wages of tea labourers with wage for Sunday at Rs 100, among others.

The ATTSA has also demanded amendment to the Plantation Labour Act, 1995, supply of quality medicines, potable water in tea gardens and reservation of 15 per cent government jobs.
