TINSUKIA, March 11 - Demanding Scheduled Tribe status for the Mottock community, activists of Tinsukia district committee of Sodou Asom Mottock Yuba Chatra Sanmilan staged a two-hour sit-in dharna in front of the DCs office here yesterday.
They demanded that the modalities for granting ST status to the six communities of Assam should be prepared on priority basis by the Central Government.
They said that their other demands include selection of candidates by the political parties from the Mottock community in Chabua and Tinsukia constituencies, where people of Mottock community are the dominating tribe, though the political parties have not given any importance to them over the years.
They further alleged that the present MLAs of Chabua and Tinsukia had been depriving the Mottock community from development in all aspects. They threatened that they would continue their stir more stringently if their demands are not fulfilled.
