DGP promises to address constables woes in police meet

By STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI, June 7 - Director General of Assam Police Kuladhar Saikia today said that the problems and inconveniences faced by constables would be addressed soon, and that the police force would be made efficient and public-oriented from the grassroot level.

Addressing the Arakshi Milan Samaroh held at the 4th AP Bn headquarters at Kahilipara, Saikia said that the constables have a big role to play in enhancing the efficiency of the men-in-khaki and as such, their well-being has a large bearing on the overall efficiency of the police force.

Stressing the need for facilitating better police-public relations, the DGP said that a police force with proper rapport with citizens always has a better chance of carrying out their responsibilities smoothly.

The idea behind organising the programme was to provide the constables a platform to exchange new ideas, and promote innovation to tackle future challenges on their part as the first responders at the thana level. The DGP also asked senior police officials to interact openly with the constables to know about their grievances.

In an interaction with the constables, the DGP answered various queries from them and thanked them for the issues raised by them.

Mukesh Agarwal, ADGP (Law and Order), and Dr LR Bishnoi, ADGP (CID), informed the DGP about the steps, including training programmes, taken to enhance the skills and efficiency of the constables.

Harmit Singh, ADGP (Administration), said that measures were being initiated for timely promotion and provision of other benefits to police personnel.

The DGP also distributed golden and silver commendation medals among 31 officers and jawans. Among the SPs who received the awards include Nagaon SP Shankar Raimedhi and Sivasagar SP Amitava Sinha.

The certificate of the Central Government adjudging the Nazira Police Station as the best police station of the State, was formally presented to the in-charge of the police station and the SP of Sivasagar district.
