GUWAHATI, Oct 16 - Director General of Assam Police Kuladhar Saikia and former Rajya Sabha MP Dr Jayashree Goswami Mahanta are among the seven personalities of the State who are in the race for the post of Asam Sahitya Sabha president for the tenure of 2020-22.
The other contestants for the post of president are writer Dr Basanta Kumar Goswami, Suryakanta Hazarika, Pakhila Kalita, Dr Karabi Deka Hazarika, Prahlad Chandra Tasa.
Spokesperson of the three-member election committee Bijon Kumar Mahajan today published the list of contestants for the post of president, vice-president and general secretary. The election committee comprises former judge of Gauhati High Court Justice Biplab Kumar Sarma as the chief election officer and senior advocates Bijon Kumar Mahajan and SP Roy as the members.
The contestants for the post of vice-president are Ratimohan Nath, Mrinalini Devi, Padumi Gogoi and Dr Basanta Kumar Sarma.
The contestants for the post of general secretary are Jadab Chandra Sarma, Harendra Kalita and Debajit Bora.
From November 1, the election committee will send ballot papers to every district and branch committee through post and from that day itself the voting process will start. The process will culminate on December 10. The counting of votes will take place on December 15.
