Devotees pull Jagannath Rath with religious fervour

SILCHAR, June 25 - With the weather remaining favorable, devotees across Cachar district came out in large numbers on the streets to pull the holy chariot of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balaram and Goddess Subhadra on the occasion of Rath Yatra on Sunday.

The biggest chariot was taken out from the ISKCON temple where devotees performed various colourful dances and sang hymn praising the Lord. Cachar Deputy Commissioner S Vishwanathan who came along with his mother to offer prayers inaugurated the Rath Yatra by cleaning the street with the customary golden broom.

�I am happy to be a part of the celebrations here for the third consecutive year. Hope the festival ushers in happiness peace and prosperity in the lives of the people of the district,� the Deputy Commissioner said.

Also there was good crowd on both sides of the roads to witness the chariots being pulled by the devotees across the city.

On the other hand, the festival was thoroughly enjoyed in the interior areas of the district as well. Devotees in the East Singari Radhamadhav temple took out the chariot of Lord Jagannath in a grand fashion.

Meanwhile, the Cachar district administration ensured elaborate security arrangements during the festival to avert any untoward incident.
