Developmental works in Chhaygaon: Rekibuddin

MIRZA, Jan 14 - The State Government will set up a Centre of Excellence in Chhaygaon Legislative Constituency in Kamrup district and over 85 bighas of land have been acquired for setting it up at Bamunigaon area of Chhaygaon LAC. This Centre will mainly be engaged in doing research on orange- based crops and mixing of orange crops with other crops for generating better income and profit from the orchards. This was disclosed by Parliamentary Secretary (Education) and MLA, Chhaygaon LAC, Rekibuddin Ahmed on Monday at a public meeting at Sampupara in Goroimari block of Kamrup district.

Over 500 AIUDF workers led by Naimuddin Ahmed, Councillor of Jorsimili Gaon Panchayat and Nasima Alam Khanom, Councillor of Achalpara Gaon Panchayat under Goroimari Development Block under Chhaygaon LAC joined the Congress in the meeting. Over 200 AGP workers too joined the Congress in the public meeting.

A few days back too, the president, of the anchalik panchayat of Goroimari Development Block, Rejina Bhuya who was elected as an AIUDF candidate in the last panchayat polls, had also joined the Congress alongwith 500 of her supporters.

Addressing a gathering of over 5000 people, Ahmed further said that a Tea Park would also be set up in Chhaygaon LAC which will boost economy of South Kamrup and generate employment and nearly all activities of the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre will be transferred to the Tea Park at Chhaygaon LAC.

Ahmed said that he had single-handedly placated Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to declare South Kamrup comprising Chhaygaon, Palasbari and Boko LACs , as a subdivision (Civil) for the benefit of the people of South Kamrup and now people would have access to various facilities in South Kamrup, itself due to the declaration of subdivision which will help them save time and money.

Rekibuddin Ahmed said that erosion of Brahmaputra was a major problem for the people of Chhaygaon LAC and hundreds of bighas of land has been eroded in Chhaygaon LAC. The Asian Development Bank had sanctioned two anti-erosion projects, amounting to Rs 100 crore in Chhaygaon LAC in Kamrup district and the first phase of the work at Jahirpur-Baghmara (Achalpara) area has already been completed. He claimed that the south bank of the Brahmaputra in Chhaygaon LAC has been protected permanently from erosion.

He said that the Gumi -Jorsimili embankment under Chhaygaon LAC has also been strengthened and widened with the implementation of a Rs 14-crore project through the Assam Water Resources Department which has protected the people from floods and promoted communication facilities in Chhayagaon LAC.

�Another anti-erosion project was launched under MGNREGA on January 11 at Sampupara area in Chhaygaon LAC to protect the people from erosion of Kolohi river.�

Ahmed said that the Chand Sadagar Merghar located at Mothpara near Chhaygaon township is an ancient heritage of Assam and the Archaeological Department has been implementing a project for its preservation.

He also said that several roads of Chhaygaon LAC have been black topped or are being blacktopped. The blacktopping work of the 28 km Chhaygaon-Ukium Road, a lifeline for a vast section of Garo, Rabha and other tribal people of Chhaygaon LAC is on the verge of completion with an investment Rs 14 crore.

Besides several major roads including Goroimari-Kalatuli Road, Gumi-Kalatuli Road, Hatipara-Achalpara Road, Singimari -Pukhuripar Road in Chhaygaon LAC have been blacktopped. Besides, several important bridges including Singhat Bridge, Sampupara Bridge, Gumi Bridge etc., have been constructed. Giving a detailed account of education development, Ahmed said that an ITI has been being established at Goroimari ( Majortop) which will be inaugurated by the Chief Minister shortly. Two Science Higher Secondary Schools�Majortop Science Higher Secondary School and Ghoramar Science Higher Secondary School, has also been established. The Champaknagar Girls High School and Dr Zakir Hussain High School in Chhaygaon LAC would be promoted to Commerce Higher Secondary Schools shortly.

Ahmed said that new Primary Health Centre at Batahidia char would soon be inaugurated by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
