NILAMBAZAR, June 17 - At a time when a rosy picture of developmental works in various departments are being showcased by the State government, the people of various rural areas under Ratabari LAC in Karimganj district are yet to enjoy the real taste of development.

Despite implementation of a number of developmental projects under the State governments departments, people living in remote rural areas like Nalarpar, Bhabanipur, Mongalpur, Basish-hal, Soytanala, Dolu, Basantapur, Jaroilbari, Sunairpar, Baruala, Chamala etc., villages under Ramkrishna Nagar Police Station in Ratabari LAC of the district are plagued by deplorable road condition, absence of potable water, medical facilities and proper education facilities in the name of development during the last several decades.

The residents of these areas allege that they have been deprived from all sorts of government facilities. Even after the elapse of 72 years of Indias independence, proper development in these areas is still a distant dream due to the alleged negligence to these areas by the authorities concerned and the public representatives.

The southern part of Kalibari Bazar under No. 1 Ratabari LAC in Sonitpur district from Sonbeel Ghat to Nayatilla Gaon Panchayat area do not have the required necessary facilities. The woes of the residents of this belt have fallen on deaf ears of the authorities.

Most of the roads connecting the above mentioned villages with other parts of the world have been in a dilapidated condition since a couple of decades.

The panchayats under the Ramkrishna Nagar Development Block which have been bestowed with developmental works of the rural area have also allegedly failed to deal with the problems of the people of this greater area, the residents of the area alleged.

Expressing their total annoyance over the governments indifferent attitude towards addressing their long-pending grievances, peeved residents of the area said that on many occasions they have appealed to the department concerned to construct a bridge over More Singla river, but there was no response from the government and the department concerned.

Three bamboo bridges in different parts of the river are the only means of connecting the people with other parts in the greater area.

Moreover, though the government is taking initiative to provide better healthcare services, people of the area are yet to enjoy the same. The Maduribil Dalu sub centre the only medical facility in the area is also of no use as the government has not appointed any MBBS doctor in this sub-centre till date.

More importantly, during the Congress rule, crores of rupees as precious funds were allotted to the area for development of road communication, electrification, drinking water facility etc., as well as for the Motilalgorh project. But due to rampant misappropriation of funds, nothing has materialised in the area.

Meanwhile, seeking a change, people of the area irrespective of party affiliation voted for the present MLA so that he would be able to solve the pressing problems. But in reality, nothing has been executed even after enjoying power for three years by the BJP-led government in the State.

It may be mentioned that the local MLA Kripanath Mallah, who was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, has now resigned from the post after being elected as a Member of Parliament in the last parliamentary election from the Karimganj seat.

The people of the area have therefore urged the government to deal with their long-pending problems on an urgent basis so that they can reap the benefits of the developmental projects.
