IMPHAL, April 5 - Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah today claimed that development activities started taking place in the North East after the BJP came to power at the Centre four years back.

Addressing an election meeting at the Wangjing Kodompokpi Ground, 35 km south of Imphal in Manipurs Thoubal district, Shah claimed that NEC meetings, which were not held for the last 40 years, were held after the BJP came to power. Even the development fund was increased by 258 per cent, he said.

Shah was campaigning for two BJP candidates Benjamin Mate in Outer Manipur constituency and Dr RK Ranjan in Inner Manipur constituency.

Stating that the entire North East was being connected by road, rail and IT, he said that the BJP government in the State has built 300 km of roads and five helipads for helicopter services under the UDAN scheme.

The government has covered 2,630 villages out of 2,700 under its Go to village mission besides giving free cooking gas connections to 1.3 lakh families in the state, he said.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren, BJP state president K Bhabananda, ministers, MLAs and party workers were present at the rally.

Accusing the previous Congress government for frequent bandhs, he said that then Congress Chief Minister O Ibobi had sold out land, forest, water, including the Loktak lake.

Reacting to the charges, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson K Meghachandra said that these were all false propaganda and baseless charges to get votes.

ANN Service adds from Bordumsa (Arunachal Pradesh): Development of the North East has been the top priority of the Narendra Modi government, and various socio-economic, health, educational, infrastructural and developmental schemes are being implemented, Amit Shah said during a poll campaign at Bordumsa in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh today.

Shah was campaigning for BJP candidates Tapir Gao, the candidate for Arunachal East Lok Sabha seat, and Jawra Maio for the 49 Bordumsa-Diyun Assembly seat.

Shah said positive changes have been brought in all sectors by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre and the Pema Khandu government in the State.

BJP national general secretary Ram Lal, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, MLAs of seven constituencies of the district and party leaders were present on the occasion.
