Development depends upon youths: Sonowal

DIBRUGARH, Jan 25 - The Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sarbananda Sonowal while addressing thousands of college students at the youth conclave at Borpathar ground near Dibrugarh University here today said that development of a nation largely depended upon the youths.

Sonowal said that a society cannot make progress without the helping hand of the youths. �Youths must take up the responsibility to build society. If we dream of making Assam one of the most prosperous, powerful and developed State, we must pledge for our motherland today; during our student stint that we will work for her. We must strive to achieve this development through hard work and not with mere speeches,� he said.

Highlighting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated schemes liked Skill India, Make in India, Digital India etc., the Union Minister said that Government of India was seeking to empower the youths through various skill based programmes so that none was unemployed in the country.

The youth conclave organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan and supported by National Service Scheme. The event had started off gorgeously with attendance of more than 3000 college students from five upper Assam districts but concluded in a very chaotic manner.

Thousands of college students listened to the rhetoric of Union Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Dibrugarh MP Rameshwar Teli and Prasanta Phukan as also to the speech of Dr Alak Kumar Buragohain, vice chancellor of Dibrugarh University but hardly any attended the main session on �Skill Development� vis-�-vis the Skill India mission of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

�Skilled Youth - Empowered Assam� was the chosen theme for the day-long youth conclave. Vishnu Dutta Sharma, the all India vice chairman of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan also shared the dais with the Union Minister.
