The programme, organised jointly by two leading dance training institutes of Dergaon, namely Jhumka Kala Kendra and Manikanchan Kala Niketan, was largely attended.

The festival was organised in order to motivate the budding artistes towards the ancient dance form which was at one time held at Negheriting Shiva Doul under the patronage of the Ahom kings of yore.

The programme was inaugurated by Dergaon Circle Officer Utpal Deka, who urged the younger generation to try and be well acquainted with the ancient dance form.

The programme was attended by several dignitaries like social worker Atul Goswami, retired teacher Pratap Kondoly and Dr Surendra Nath Borah, among others.

She also expressed her gratitude to all for making the programme a success.

Earlier, the day-long programme was initiated by the priests of the temple by ceremonially lighting earthen lamps.
