Deva Das� mother suspects foul play, to approach police

GUWAHATI, Feb 6 � The death of advocate and former journalist Deva Kumar Das, who was found dead in the morning of January 8 in the city may not be attributed to injuries caused by a leopard attack. The post-mortem report states that the fatality was �due to a coma as a result of head injury��

The report from the Department of Forensic Medicine, Guwahati Medical College and Ex-Office Police Surgeon, Kamrup, further mentioned, �All injuries were ante mortem and caused by blunt force impact.�

The mother of the deceased, Bina Das, when contacted told this newspaper that she suspects foul play in the death and will approach the police for further investigation. She suspects involvement of some relatives in the death of her son and added that those relatives had created problems for him on several occasions in the past.

It may be mentioned that Deva Kumar Das was attacked by a leopard in the afternoon of January 7, after which he was treated for injuries in the head. He was found dead in his Silpukhuri residence the next morning.

Three persons had been injured by the straying leopard in the Silpukhuri area that day. Later, a team of forest personnel along with veterinarians arrived at the spot to tranquilize the leopard which was seeking shelter to evade a crowd of excited onlookers.
