�Destination North East 2020� launch today

GUWAHATI, Sept 26 - Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is also the chairman of the North Eastern Council, will inaugurate �Destination North East 2020� through the virtual medium on Sunday.

Union Minister of State (Independent charge) for the Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Dr Jitendra Singh will be the guest of honour at the event.

This year, the theme is��The emerging delightful destinations��� which speaks of the tourism destinations of the region emerging stronger and more attractive when the sector picks up momentum.�The programme coincides with World Tourism Day which falls on September 27.

Destination North East is a calendar event of the Union Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) conceptualised with the objective of taking the North East to other parts of the country and bringing them closer in order to strengthen national integration and promote the local tourism and hospitality sector.

The four-day programme will feature audio visual presentations of the tourist spots of the North East, messages from State icons and achievers, introduction to prominent local entrepreneurs and virtual exhibition of handicraft, traditional fashion and local products.

According to industry experts, the North East is supposed to be one of the favourite tourist and business destinations of India post COVID-19 situation.
