Despite protests, buffalo sacrifices on at Belsor

NALBARI, Oct 4 � Despite repeated protests by the organisations of nature lovers, the number of buffalo sacrifices has been growing at the historic Bilbeswar Devalaya at Belsor in Nalbari district.

According to the organisers, 31 buffaloes have been kept ready for sacrifice on Mahanavami tomorrow at the Devalaya. It was 21 in 2010 and 19 on 2009 at Bilbeswar Devalaya. The Ulabari Durga Puja Samiti has also started buffalo sacrifice in the last four years. Thousands of people throng the Bilbeswar Devalaya at Belsor and the Durga Puja pandal at Ulabari to witness the sacrifice.

On Mahanavami, a unique �Kumari� Puja will be performed at Adattari near Mukalmua. At Adattari, nine premature girls will be worshipped. Thousands of people from various parts of the district come to this puja to witness Kumari Puja.
