Despite adversity, Tezpur boy shines in HS exams

TEZPUR, May 31 - Mrinaljyoti Porel of Darrang College � who secured the third rank in the Science stream in the HS examination, the results of which were declared today � studied for his exams amidst tough challenges.

Mrinal, a resident of Rupak Nagar here, got a total of 480 marks with letter marks in all the subjects. He got 96 in English, 95 in Alternative English, 98 in Physics, 95 in Chemistry, 96 in Mathematics and 84 in�Biology.

However, life has not been easy for Mrinal in the past few years. He underwent severe mental agony, after his father, Prof Bhesh Raj Porel, a professor of Statistics in Darrang College, went missing on May 12, 2014 after dropping his son at Don Bosco High School, Tezpur. His mother, Nirumala Devi, had to look after him alone.

Mrinal, who dreams of becoming a Physicist, said he has already cleared the IIT-JEE. �Though I have cleared these competitive examinations, I will take the decision of my future education after clearing the entrance of the Indian Institution of Science and Education Research that will be held on�June 24, because through this, one can pursue research work in Physics after clearing BSc and MSc,� he said. He expressed gratitude to all his teachers for supporting him in his father�s absence.

He said that to achieve good results, it was not necessary for a student to study hours after hours. A few hours of full concentration helps equally, he said.

Mrinal will also appear in the entrance examination for integrated MSc in Physics at Tezpur University to be held on�June 8.

Meanwhile, Sakshi Singh also brought glory to Tezpur and Darrang College by securing the fourth position in the Commerce stream.

Sakshi got 462 marks with letter marks in all the subjects. She got 94 in English, 89 in Alternative English, 95 in Accountancy, 91 in Business Studies, 93 in Business Mathematics and Statistical Science, and 85 in Economic Science. The daughter of Sankar Prasad Singh, an employee of the Tezpur Head Post Office, and Renu Singh, and a permanent resident of Bihar, Sakshi told reporters that she will pursue her further education from Darrang College with Accountancy as her major subject.

Sakshi, who is fond of music and likes to watch TV, said that just ahead of the examination, she studied 12-13 hours daily.
