GUWAHATI, Jan 23 - The 139th birth anniversary of Deshabhakta Tarun Ram Phookun was observed on January 22 at the TRP Park here under the presidentship of social activist Dhiren Baruah. Former DGP and poet Harekrishna Deka lit the ceremonial lamp and paid floral tribute at the statue of the great patriot.
In a public meeting held on the occasion, Dhiren Baruah and several other eminent speakers spoke on the life and great works of Tarun Ram Phookun.
Speaking on the occasion, Harekrishna Deka remembered Karmabir Nabin Chandra Bordoloi, Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi and other freedom fighters of the State along with Deshabhakta Tarun Ram Phookun. He also asked the State Government to take the initiative in observing the birth anniversary of Tarun Ram Phookun.
