DERGAON, May 30 - The Dergaon Town Club, a heritage site of Dergaon situated at Narikalguri here, is all set to get a facelift.
The club, established in 1929, contributed a lot to socio-cultural field of greater Dergaon area in particular and Assam in general. However, due to the apathy of the previous executive committees, the building was lying in a state of disrepair.
The present executive committee of the club, however, has decided to reconstruct the building with an estimated budget of Rs 1.19 crore. According to the plans, the old building will be replaced by a three-storey building. It will have a conference hall, a guest house, a cultural stage, washrooms and 12 shops.
This was stated by club president Dr Rajib Barthakur and secretaries Gopal Krishna Khound and Pabitra Thakur at a press meet recently. The press meet was also attended by renowned persons of the locality like Horen Khound, Prabin Sarma, Sarat Rana Bora, Biren Upadhyay, Naju ali, Satyajit Khound, among others.
