Dergaon School to represent NE in national science drama festival

DERGAON, Oct 28 - The Dergaon Girls� HS School team was adjudged as the best team in the NE Zonal Science Drama Festival held at the Regional Science Centre at Khanapara, Guwahati on October 26.

In the keenly contested competition, the drama titled Pakhir Kakolit Susubhita Dharani written by Sanjoy Kumar Hazarika and directed by Pankaj Rajkhowa was declared as the best team and was selected to represent North East at the national- level festival to be held on January 10 next in New Delhi. Sanjoy Kumar Hazarika was also awarded the Best Script Writer Award.

The competition, organised by Guwahati Regional Science Centre, which is a branch of the National Council of Science Museums under the Union Ministry of Culture, to inculcate scientific temperament, was participated in by seven teams representing Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.

The drama under reference with the message of bird conservation relating to the focal theme �Science and Society� was also declared as the best team at the State- level contest held on October 23 at Guwahati and earlier at Jorhat on October 7. In the State level, Pankaj Rajkhowa was awarded the Best Director Award while Namisha Bora was awarded the Best Actress Award, while Sanjoy Kumar Hazarika was awarded the Best Script Writer Award and Namisha Bora was awarded the Best Actress Award at the Upper Assam level.

Talking to The Assam Tribune, the Principal of Dergaon Girls� HS School Chidananda Pathak expressed satisfaction over the success of their team and chance to represent NE at the national level. He congratulated the participants, namely Porismita Bora, Shiwani Bora, Porikhita Boruah, Bandita Rabha, Priyakhi Devi , Akankhya Bora, Namisha Bora and Porismita Hazarika, besides teacher-cum-guide Rupam Baruah, script writer Sanjoy Kumar Hazarika and director Pankaj Rajkhowa for their contribution in bringing laurels to the State.
