Dergaon boy Snehashis brings laurels

DERGAON, Dec 28 - Snehashis Parasar, a youth from Dergaon in upper Assam�s Golaghat district brought laurels for the people here by receiving the Best Postgraduate Student honour presented by internationally-acclaimed Tezpur University.

Only son of bank official Sashim Kumar Tamuly and Illy Bezbaruah of Rajabahar Dergaon and the grandchild of noted social worker late Narendranath Tamuly and Anu Tamuly of Baruabamungaon, Snehashis was declared as the Best Postgraduate Student of the university.

After passing HSLCE examination with 92.16 per cent from Dergaon Jatiya Vidyalaya in 2012, he passed his Higher Secondary examination with 90.04 in Science stream from the prestigious DKD College, Dergaon in 2014.

Later, he got admitted into the five-year integrated MSc in Physics course in 2014 and finally completed the course with flying colours. With a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 8.58, he was declared the Best Postgraduate Student of the university.

He received the gold medal for his performance from the Chancellor of the university and Governor of Assam Prof Jagdish Mukhi at the 17th convocation of the university held recently.

His performance was widely appreciated in his native place at Dergaon.

The Principal of DKD College Dr Ranjit Kumar Bordoloi said that Snehashis was a brilliant student and the college fraternity had discovered this earlier.

�We had absolute faith in his talents and knew that he would perform well in any academic course. We, along with the residents of Dergaon, feel proud of him,� Bordoloi said.

A resident of Rajabahar Dergaon and the president of a frontline organisation working for environment conservation AASHRAY, Biren Chandra Saikia said that they felt proud of him.

�We hope that he will contribute a lot towards the development of the State in general and Dergaon in particular,� Saikia said.

Snehashis�s grandmother Anu Tamuly said that she was very proud of his achievement.

A brilliant quizzer from his school life he was the quiz convenor, member of Students� science council and student member of academic council of the university.

Talking to this correspondent, Snehashis expressed his satisfaction over his result and assured that he would contribute towards development of the society.

�I will do my level best to serve the nation in general and the State as well as Dergaon in particular,� he said.
