Deprivation of locals in gas cracker jobs alleged

DIBRUGARH, Feb 27 � The district unit of the All India Youth Federation (AIYF) recently staged demonstration in front of the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Dibrugarh here in protest against alleged deprivation of local youths in various construction jobs at gas cracker project at Lepetakata.

The AIYF has alleged that a construction company named RVR Project Private Limited was carrying out construction activities by hiring workers from outside the state. �About 300 skilled workers have been imported from States like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh inspite of availability of skilled workers in and around the project area�, the youth federation alleged.

In a memorandum addressed to the Deputy Commissioner, the youth body said several youths underwent the requisite training in various trades for employment in the construction activities of the project but had not been accomodated in the project works. The AIYF has threatened to launch stir if the trend of depriving local youths continued.

Cattle lifter killed: An alleged robber succumbed to the injuries sustained during the thrasing by the irate public of Hiloidhari village under Borbari police outpost near here, after he was caught red handed carrying away bulls in the wee hours recently. The DI vehicle (AS 23 G 2257) brought to lift the bulls was later set ablaze by the villagers. The bulls were about to be mounted in the DI vehicle when the owner sounded alarm and villagers came out in big numbers.

The alleged robber who reportedly died in Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) has been identified as Ashiq Ali of Bokel while his accomplice who managed to flee has not been identified.
