GUWAHATI, Nov 29 � Dreaded dengue fever has taken a toll of 11 human lives in the State.
Director Health Dr D Hojai told this newspaper that till November 26, the number of suspected victims of the disease was 1051 in the State. Of them, 739 were confirmed to be suffering from the disease through Elisa test.
In 2011, 48 people were suspected to be affected by the disease and of them, one person died of it. The preceding year, 351 people were suspected to be affected by the fever. Of them, three persons were killed by it, Dr Hojai said.
This year, 24 districts of the State have been affected by the disease. With a confirmed number of 525 patients, Kamrup (Metro) district has topped the list of the affected districts and seven persons in this district died of the fever.
With 45 confirmed patients, Kamrup district has come
second on the list of the districts affected by the disease, followed by Lakhimpur with 43 confirmed cases. One person died of the disease in this district. Each of the districts of Bongaigaon, Udalguri and Chirang has reported one dengue-related death, said Dr Hojai.
