DEMU train service flagged off in Tripura

AGARTALA, Oct 3 - The first Diesel Electric Multiple Unit (DEMU) trains from Agartala to Dharmanagar, and from Agartala to Sabroom, were flagged off at a function held at the Agartala Railway Station here today.

The flagging-off function was attended by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Transport Minister Pranajit Shingha Roy and MP Pratima Bhoumik. Senior Railway officials, including General Manager Sanjive Roy and Divisional Railway Manager of Lumding, Ram Bahadur Rai, were present in the function.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister thanked the NF Railway for fulfilling the long-standing demand of the people of Tripura by introducing DEMU trains before the ensuing Durga Puja.

Deb said that local people would immensely benefit from the service of these trains as they would be able arrive at Agartala and go back to their places after enjoying the Durga Puja.

He also thanked the NF Railway for completing rail connectivity up to Sabroom, which is vital for the economic development of the State.

MP Pratima Bhowmik, in her speech, stated that during the last five years, Tripura has got special attention with regard to railway development works.
