GUWAHATI, March 2 � On the first day of the Budget session of the Assam Assembly today, protests and demonstrations were held by different organisations at Dispur Last Gate.
Three different organisations representing Mising community � Takam Mising Mime Kebang, Mising Mimag Kebang and Takam Mising Porin Kebang today staged a demonstration and demanded that the Mising Autonomous Council should be included in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India.
The Mising bodies also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding that the budget allocation to the council should be enhanced in proportion to the population of the council area. The memorandum said that the elections to the council should be held immediately as a democratically elected body would always be accountable to the people. The organisations demanded that no more interim body of the council should be created.
The Tiwa Yuba Chantra Parishad also demanded that the Tiwa Autonomous Council should be included in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India, while, the All Assam Deuri Students� Union demanded that the elections to the Deuri Autonomous Council should be held immediately.
