GUWAHATI, June 14 � People of Bamunimaidam-Noonmati area in large numbers today staged a protest demonstration on the road near the Food Corporation of India (FCI) godown, demanding justice for a rape victim, besides immediate removal of the trucks parked by the roadside.
The girl was raped in a stationed truck on the night of June 11 by three miscreants.
The local people alleged that the practice of parking trucks by the roadside was having a disturbing impact on the residential area�s environment as was evident from a spurt in crimes.
�This is polluting the area�s ambience and has proved to be a boon for the anti-social elements who indulge in all sorts of crimes and mischief after dark under the cover of the stationed trucks. It has, in fact, become a den for criminals and anti-socials. We had moved the administration several times to have the truck parking shifted to some other area but in vain,� a local resident said.
Crimes apart, the practice of parking a large number of trucks on the busy road has created severe traffic congestion in the area, creating a perennial chaotic situation.
