AGARTALA, Dec 20 - The demonetization drive has not affected the State badly due to the wholehearted support from the State government as well the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), said Tripura Gram Bank (TGB) Chairman Upendra Sabar.
As on date, the TGB, which has 144 branches spread across the State, has received Rs 465 crore since the demonetisation process began. We have been able to tackle the situation post demonetization as the flow of new notes continued from the RBI to the banks. The situation will be back to normalcy gradually, Sabar told media-persons here today.
He said the TGB has plans to install 225 micro ATMs to reach out to the rural people. The mobile ATM is easy to access because one doesnt need to use secret password to open his or her account. However, the account should be Aadhaar-enabled to avail the scope, he said adding that altogether 200 PoS (Point of Sale) would be installed very shortly.
On the poor Credit Deposit Ratio (CDR), the TGB Chairman said that there is a big gap between deposit and advance leading to only 38 percent CDR of the bank. The TGBs upward trend in deposit is higher than that of its advance. This is not a problem of the TGB alone, as most banks face similar difficulties, he pointed out.
While the CDR of nationalised banks in Tripura stands at 41 percent, the national average is much higher at 60 percent. There is little scope to match with the national average of CDR due to lack of industrialisation, he added.
Sabar said the TGBs operating profit has increased by 78.64 percent, which is Rs 96.86 crore as on September 30, 2016 from Rs 54.22 crore as on September 30, 2015.
The TGB has also decided to adopt a village where villagers would be provided financial literacy during the coming financial year.
