SIVASAGAR, Nov 9 - Hundreds of women took to the streets in Sivasagar yesterday protesting against alleged unrestrained exploitation of the micro financial companies mushrooming everywhere. The demonstrators submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar demanding stringent legal action against the micro finance companies indulging in illegal financial transactions among the poor rural people and waive all loan interests.
The protesters were joined by members of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Chatra Mukti Sangram activists. Micro finance companies like Arohan, LMT, Ujjibon, Bharat, Bandhan, Asomi, Fusion etc., have been keeping the rural and semi urban people on tenterhooks through loans and there has been a spurt in domestic quarrels, theft, burglary in temples, mosques and even shrines like the Ajan Peer Shahib Dargah due to failure to repay loans. One Moni Bora of Simaluguri filed an FIR against Bandhan Bank allegedly for threatening the family members for failure to repay loan. The protesting women alleged that the credit companies forcefully lift valuables from defaulters� houses now-a-days for failure to pay instalments.
