HAILAKANDI, Aug 7 - The Katlicherra Subdivision Demand Committee has urged the Chief Minister to declare the Katlicherra circle of Hailakandi district as a sub-division immediately.
In a memorandum to the Chief Minister, the committee threatened to launch a vigorous movement if Katlicherra is not declared a subdivision within August 15 next. They said that the committee has been fighting for the implementation of their demand since 1980 and alleged that their demand was not considered by the State Government. It also mentioned that after the during the first phase of the movement, the Government of Assam was contemplating to declare Katlicherra as a subdivision but suddenly the entire process got stalled. The memorandum mentioned various factors in favour of Katlicherra as a civil subdivision.
A public meeting was also held at Katlicherra recently, under the chairmanship of the president of the demand committee, Sushil Deb. This meeting was addressed by Jamal Uddin, Bhusan Deb, president of the Katlicherra Gaon Panchayat, Nishith Choudhury, secretary Sanath Das, Rajib Das, Bibhuti Chakraborty, Bidyut Paul, Subhas Nath Mazumdar among others. All of them demanded the immediate declaration of the subdivision and decided to continue the phase wise movement for the same.
