DIPHU, Sept 24 Along with the autonomous and separate statehood demands, a separate Howraghat District demand is also being made in the hill district Karbi Anglong.
Demanding the creation of a separate Howraghat district, the Howraghat District Demand Committee (HDDC) on Monday threatened to boycott the coming Parliamentary elections if the government fails to accept its demand.
Addressing a press meet at Howraghat on Monday, Madhab Bora, president, HDDC said that people of Howraghat and Bakaliaghat want a separate Howraghat district. He reiterated that the area which is dominated by non-Karbi people has been deprived of political and socio-economic empowerment since Karbi Anglong came into existence as a full-fledged separate district.
He further said that if the government fails to fulfil their demand, then the people living in the 4421 square kilometre area of Howraghat and Bakaliaghat would boycott the coming parliamentary election.
Pointing out to the controversial land ordinance issued by the KAAC recently, Bora criticised the Congress-ruled KAAC body saying that the rights of the non-Karbis were sought to be crushed time and again.
Joyprakash Gowala, secretary and Sagar Das, adviser of HDDC also addressed the press meet and elaborated on the demand for a separate Howraghat district.
