NILAMBAZAR, June 20 - The Karimganj Civic Right Society staged a demonstration in front of the Karimganj Railway Station demanding introduction of two pairs of passenger trains on the Karimganj-Silchar rail route. They also demanded to start a DMU service on the Silchar-Dhamanagar route and resumption of the train service on Karimganj-Dullavcherra and Karimganj-Mohisashan routes.
Later, the Civic Rights Committee also submitted a memorandum to the General Manager (open line), Maligaon through the Station Manager, Karimganj urging an immediate solution to the situation in the newly-constructed Silchar-Lumding broad gauge line at Migrendisa.
In the memorandum, the committee said that the NF Railway has suspended all passenger and goods trains on this route due to various problems since long. The present condition of National Highways in Barak Valley are worse. The people of Barak Valley as well as neighbouring States of Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur are facing untold miseries due to the lack of road connectivity.
