GUWAHATI, Aug 22 - The All Assam Koch Students� Union has demanded steps to accord Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Koch community of the State. The Koch people belong to the Indo-Mongoloid race and their language belongs to the Tibeto-Burman family. The Bill to accord ST status to the Koch community should be placed before the Parliament during its ensuing Winter Session, said the student body.
In case the Koch people are not accorded the ST status shortly, the student body warned that it would give a befitting reply to both the Congress and the BJP in the ensuing Assembly elections in the State.
