GUWAHATI, March 18 � The Uttar Guwahati-Guwahati Sanjogi Dalang Nirman Dabi Samity has alleged that whether it is the government or regional or national political parties, everyone has been giving the voters of North Guwahati false hopes of a bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati.
The citizens of North Guwahati since the last thirty years have been demanding for a bridge that will not only solve their communication problems but will also ensure development of their area.
�The citizens of North Guwahati have been facing great inconvenience travelling to Guwahati. A bridge connecting both side is very important but unfortunately the policy makers have been ignoring our genuine demand,� said Diganta Bora, general secretary of the Samity while addressing media persons here.
Bora said that a bridge will not only benefit the people of Mandakata, Bejera, Salmara, Dumunichaki, Lenga, Jalah, Baihata Chariali, etc. but also a sizeable section of the population of Darrang district.
It needs to be mentioned here that the Samity has submitted memorandums insisting for this bridge to the Chief Minister, the Governor, the MPs of Guwahati and Mangaldoi and other authorities concerned.
�For the students, office goers and all others who have to reach Guwahati at a fixed time, lack of proper surface communication has created innumerable hurdles. The harrowing experience that the residents of North Guwahati encounter daily is unimaginable,� said Bora, adding, the bridge will address the problem of traffic snarls in the capital city and will propel North Guwahati as a must see tourist destination.
The Samity, on the other hand, is of the opinion that the haphazard growth of industries in North Guwahati will spell doom if the issue is not addressed immediately. �North Guwahati has to be developed in a planned manner. And for this we need the bridge,� said another functionary of the Samity.
The Samity, miffed at the false assurances of policy makers, has decided to give a fitting reply to the public representatives during the coming Assembly election. It will also take to the path of agitation if its long standing demand goes unheeded.
�The political party that will solve our problem gets our vote,� announced the Samity.
