NEW DELHI, Aug 30 - The Delimitation Commission is all set to redraw the Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies of Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh besides Jammu and Kashmir.
The Commission members will soon visit the Northeastern States and the Union Territory after preparing a �broad framework� of the delimitation exercise, sources said. The panel will seek views of its �associate members� � a group of Lok Sabha members and MLAs � after drawing up the framework, the sources added.
�The framework is proposed to be developed on carving out constituencies based on the 2011 Census. Only then would the Commission visit the States to meet locals. Once the framework is drawn, it would also interact with the associate members to seek their views and inputs,� said an official.
The Commission was set up in March. It is headed by former Supreme Court judge Justice Ranjana Desai (retd). Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra is the representative of the Election Commission in the panel.
In May, the Lok Sabha Speaker had nominated 15 MPs from Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh as �associate members� to assist the panel in redrawing Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies.
The Assam government has already asked Deputy Commissioners of all districts to prepare statistical data and map showing all latest administrative units and developmental units for submission to the Commission.
The directions sent in the first week of this month by the State election department ordered local administrations to collect statistical data of 19 districts, except Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong, Dhubri, South Salmara, Biswanath, Goalpara, Sonitpur, Nagaon, Hojai, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Charaideo and Kokrajhar, which have already submitted the data.
All districts have to submit good quality maps showing all latest administrative units, developmental units, for onward submission to the Delimitation Commission, the order stated. �For the sake of accuracy, unambiguity in identifying unit and localities, the data and maps to be supplied to the Commission shall be in English language only. Names should be clearly legible and spellings are to be correct,� the order said.
